At Atwell College, studies of Humanities & Social Science aim to develop students' knowledge of their world, capacity to locate and evaluate all types of information, make informed opinions and decisions in the future, develop empathy and appreciate differing points of view. These are all valuable skills for a young person to carry with them in the journey from an Atwell College student to an Australian and world citizen.
The context for this is the disciplines of History, Geography, Civics and Economics. Together they cover a range of a man's activities and endeavours, in a thread running from ancient times, through medieval times and into the modern era.
Underlying all these studies are the interlocking themes of sustainability, Australia's links with Asia and cross-cultural perspectives. In doing this, we endeavour to fully prepare young people to face a rapidly changing and ever more complex and challenging world.
